Journey

"The journey toward adoptive health is deeply personal, yet it is also a shared human experience. As members of the adoptive triad, we provide the space, opportunity, and collective wisdom to walk alongside children and teens as they navigate the hero’s journey back to themselves."

    Approach

At Adoptive Health, we believe in nurturing the unique developmental needs of adoptive children and families.

Using a sensory-based approach, we foster safe environments where families can explore emotions, identities, and personal growth together. Our methods emphasize active participation and movement, ensuring that children feel safe and supported.

By embracing concepts such as Maslow's hierarchy and Erikson's stages, we guide families through grief, loss, and congruence, empowering both children and parents to thrive emotionally in a loving, accepting atmosphere.

For nearly 40 years, Susie has had the joy of working with children and families in almost every setting imaginable; from the quiet settings of hospital clinics and schools, to bustling family homes, and peaceful equine facilities.

These decades of experience have taught her one fundamental truth: Children do well when they can do well. Children can do well when they feel safe, connected, cohesive, and competent.

As a Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Occupational Therapist, and adoptive mother, Susie looks at your child’s world through a unique lens. She doesn't just see "behaviors"; She looks for the sensory and developmental needs underneath. Her goal is to help you understand your child’s "unique wiring" so that together you can build a foundation of safety, regulation, and connection.

Because Susie is passionate about providing the highest level of care for the adoptive community, she has completed elite Training in Adoption  (TAC) training through the Center for Adoption Support and Education(CASE).

This means your work together isn't just professional - it’s deeply informed, sensitive, and tailored to the beautiful complexities of the adoptive journey
